Job Overview
We are seeking a Junior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer/Designer to support the design and integration of control systems for multi-discipline engineering projects. Operating in Calgary's dynamic environment, the successful candidate will manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality project deliverables. The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer/Designer will play a critical role in translating practical concepts into fully functional, commission-ready systems.
We are seeking a Junior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer/Designer to support the design and integration of control systems for multi-discipline engineering projects. Operating in Calgary's dynamic environment, the successful candidate will manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality project deliverables. The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer/Designer will play a critical role in translating practical concepts into fully functional, commission-ready systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed design packages for instrumentation and control systems, including specifications, datasheets, and drawings.
- Create and Review I & C engineering documentation including: Control Architecture / Communication Network drawings, LOOP drawings / IO schematics / IO lists, Shut down keys, Control narratives, Logic Diagrams, P&ID development, Instrument Datasheets.
- Perform instrument selection, sizing, and procurement to meet project and industry standards.
- Design and implement control system architectures, including PLC/DCS systems and HMI configurations.
- Collaborate with multi-discipline teams to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation and controls into overall project designs.
- Conduct site visits to assess existing systems and support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Prepare technical reports, studies, and documentation to support project execution.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Desire to learn and grow
- Ability to interpret P&IDs
- Competence in control system design and review software and tools such as AutoCAD, NavisWorks, Bluebeam and various vendor sizing software.
- Understanding of programming and configuring PLC/DCS systems.
- Understanding of measurement and control devices (transmitters, valves, etc) and datasheets
- Understanding of industry standards (e.g., ISA, API, CSA) and design specifications.
Education and Qualifications:
- A degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Systems Engineering or technical certification.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Local experience in instrumentation and controls design, preferably in the oil and gas or industrial sectors would be an asset.
