Senior API Platform Solutions Design Engineer

What will you do?

Reporting to the Director, API Platform Adoption, the Solution Design Engineer is responsible for designing, development, deployment and implementation of existing change data capture solution (CDC) to ensure real-time data replication, designing and implementing automation features, consulting with business delivery teams, and contributing to the design of delivery solutions.

The role works very closely with the Enterprise Architects (across domains and platforms), platform Engineers, enterprise event hub engineers, operations team and the governance Team. A key function of this role involves establishing and maintaining strong relationships with global business delivery teams.


The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
 

  • Lead the design, development, deployment and rollout of enhancements on the API Platform, both in the cloud and on premise.
  • Participate in the design of delivery solutions, ensuring alignment with business and technical requirements.
  • Design and implement automation features to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Responsible for consultation around API standards and best practices with business delivery teams, key among them best practices around REST API’s.
  • Leverage the construction, maintenance and continuous improvement of core infrastructure that underlies platform development including a gateway/service-mesh, runtimes, security, logging, exception handling.
  • Utilizing CI/CD Pipeline for API platform enhancements.
  • Proactively identifying defects in the platform modules, debugging issues being faced and provide effective solutions to resolve the same.
  • Participate in designing, running and interpreting performance and load-testing processes and implementing required optimizations.
  • Mentor and coach team members to bring them up to speed on build and deployment best practices.
  • Ensure projects are following best practices around continuous integration and delivery.
  • Work closely with the business and technology partners to ensure effective implementation of new technologies that support API Governance and standardization across Sun life.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for the CDC solution, including architecture diagrams, configuration guides and troubleshooting steps.
  • Continuously identify and implement enhancements to improve the scalability and performance of the CDC solution.

 

What will you need to succeed?
 

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related area.
  • 8+ years experience with programming in Java is required.
  • Work experience in DevOps, Kubernetes and AWS Cloud.
  • Understanding of APIs, Event Driven Solutions, DevOps, containers, Kubernetes and cloud.
  • Self starter with tenacious inquisitiveness and a desire to learn who will proactively find and explore solutions and provide recommendations.
  • Knowledge of REST API design standards, good working knowledge of API design specifications like Open API.

 

 

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of building solutions using Apache Kafka and Confluent Platform.
  • Previous experience with programming in Python and/or JavaScript is nice to have.
  • Experience with scripting languages to automate operations tasks is a nice to have.
  • Knowledge of solution development in AWS Serverless environment working with AWS Lambda and AWS API Gateway etc.
  • Awareness of how to deploy components on Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD solutions (like Jenkins, Groovy, CDD Continuous Delivery Director).
  • Proficiency in building and deploying solutions with frameworks like Spring Boot, including secure coding practices, load-testing and performance optimization.
  • Awareness of modern event-based architectures and patterns (event sourcing, choreography-based SAGA Pattern).
  • Awareness of Financial Services and Insurance

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
